Comprehensive Periodontal Care
Dr. Perez-Medina is a Board Certified periodontist. Her expertise as a specialist in addition to her advanced training and certification in laser dentistry gives her the upper hand when it comes to treating gum disease. We can eradicate gum disease at any stage with a variety of treatments.
Scaling and Root Planing
This non-surgical treatment is most effective when gum disease is caught early at the gingivitis or early periodontitis stage. This deep cleaning removes calculus from above and below the gum line and can reduce periodontal pocket depths by two to three millimeters.
Osseous Surgery
When gum disease has advanced to the moderate periodontitis stage and is not responding to other deep cleaning treatments, osseous surgery may be recommended. Osseous surgery is similar to scaling and root planing however, in order to gain adequate access to remove infection below the gum line, an incision is made in the gums which are then gently pulled back. This allows for the teeth and roots to be effectively cleaned and smoothed. Stitches are used to close the incision.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Perez-Medina grew up in a humble environment always dreaming of becoming a dentist. She attended the University of Puerto Rico for her Bachelor’s degree in Biology, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. After completing her undergraduate, she earned her degree as Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico Dental School where she graduated in the top of her class.
